How to play

One Roman life in sixty stops: fifteen each as legionary, legate, governor and emperor. Reach the Golden Milestone alive, with the empire intact and an heir accepted.

Each stop

  • Choice. Who you are becoming. Always open to you; every option has a gain and a cost.
  • Event. The world moves. Your earlier choices change the odds.
  • Decision. What you can do about it depends on who you have become. Options are Open, a Reach (one point short: worse odds, doubled costs), or Closed, with the reason.
  • Resolution. Craft sets the odds. Character decides whether a success holds.
  • Chronicle. Every third stop a Roman voice answers what you are becoming. Listen to it.
  • The numbers under the painting are your standing; tap them for your full sheet. A gain is green, a cost is red.

Two roads

Potentia is your power: you can see it, and each gate asks for enough of it. The other road, your service to the majesty of Rome, you cannot see. No Roman saw his own standing with posterity. Omens and the Chronicle are your only warnings. When the career ends, the Judgment of History shows you everything.

Capital acts

Some options are crimes Rome punished with death or exile. They are always open and always marked. Tap once to see the charge, again to commit it.

Your career is saved on this device

After every tap. Closing the page never rerolls the dice: each stop’s fortune was fixed when your life began.

Abandon this life?

There are no restarts within a life. Abandoning it ends it without a Judgment, and it cannot be recovered unless you saved it to a file.
